I. How to Use Prepare
A. These instructions give you the basics on how to use Prepare from within Quark or InDesign. Prepare will work with other products such as Illustrator and PageMaker. It will be similar to the InDesign instructions.
B. Open Distiller and Acrobat

1. Click and open Prepare.
2. The Queue folder and Message folder will open.
3. Select the appropriate directive.
II. Setting Up Prepare
A. The basics
1. Prepare does not fix your file. Rather it processes your file and determines what is wrong with the file with respect to being able to print the file. Here are the preference settings and how they should be set.
2. Prepare uses Distiller and Acrobat. You need to have both of these applications loaded and available on your machine.
3. While Prepare and Distiller and Acrobat should all launch automatically, it is preferred to open all three applications in advance.
4. Once configured, you don’t do much at all with Prepare.
5. You select the Prepare instructions that match your machine OS and your application.
B. Preferences
1. All preferences are found under the Synapse Prepare/Preferences menu.

4. Directives
a) Directives come from Color World Printers.
b) The directives are special settings to insure the file will work correctly depending on the number of colors in the job.

(2) For each job, the directive needs to be confirmed that it is correct

III. Using Prepare in a MAC 9.2.x environment

V. Reading the Prepare Results.
A. Once you have processed the file and sent it to Prepare, a number of windows will open.
B. The Message box shows the file processing with a variety of messages during the processing.
C. The Queue box will show a blue progress bar.
1. Wait for this to complete. It usually takes 30 seconds to 90 seconds.
2. You can do other activities while processing. The time of processing is based on size of document, number of errors, processor speed and amount of RAM.
D. The file opens in Acrobat.
E. If there are errors in your document, you get an error report on the screen.
1. A report in Acrobat with a list of errors opens in a separate window. This window may be located behind the current document window.
2. The initial report page has a summary of the document.
a) ERRORS
(1) These must be fixed before you can submit the file to Color World.
(2) You can click on the X next to the error and it will open the document at the source of the error.
b) CAUTIONS & WARNINGS
(1) These items should be looked at. However, they do not have to be fixed in order to create a certified PDF.
(2) However, it is a good idea to fix whatever is possible to be fixed.
c) FIXED
(1) These items were automatically fixed by Prepare.
(2) Generally, you can accept these changes.
(3) However, if Prepare converted an image from RGB to CMYK, it is better to return to the native file and do the conversion in the native application.
3. The PDF is saved in Prepare2.0/Errors
4. You will return to the original native file, make the corrections and resubmit the job to Prepare.
F. If no errors, the image opens up in Acrobat
1. It will have a Creo Certified PDF brand in upper right hand corner
2. The file is saved in .../Prepare2.0/DTP.
3. Select Save As if you want to save the file in another location.
G. Now go to your browser and enter proof.colorworldprinters.com and follow InSite instructions.
VI.Prepare Uploader OS 10.x Only
A. The Uploader will automatically take the certified PDF and log you into InSite and upload the file.
B. Instructions will follow after further testing by Color World Printers.
