I. InSite and Prepare Installation
A. You will get a preinstall checklist. Please review it and test out the items listed.
II. Hardware Configuration
A. RAM
1. No minimum 64 MB or more preferred.
B. Processor
1. Mac G-4 or faster. G-5 Preferred
2. PC Pentium II, 400 MHZ or faster.
C. Hard disk
a) No local space used for InSite
b) Prepare uses less than 10 megabytes.
III. Operating System
A. Mac OS
1. 9.2.2 supported
a) 9.0 is NOT supported and the applications will not run.
2. 10.2.8 supported
3. 10.3.2 or higher supported
B. Windows
1. Windows 98
2. Windows NT
3. Windows 2000
4. Windows XP
IV.Internet Connection
A. Broadband Required. The following are acceptable and will provide adequate performance.
1. DSL - 256kbps minimum speed. Preferred 512kbps or better. Warning: DSL speed as advertised by Qwest is always many times faster than the actual throughput. In our tests, DSL advertised speed of 896 kbps upload actually provides throughput of between 100 and 200 kbps.
2. Wireless same specs as DSL
3. Satellite
4. Frame Relay Normally 512 kbps or faster
5. T-1 Leased Line 1.5 mbps or faster
B. Proxy Server
1. If you have a proxy server, InSite will test if it will be a problem.
2. There may be a requirement for you to enter your user name and password to get past your proxy server and into InSite. This is due to security on the InSite server and the requirements of your proxy server.
C. Test your Connection
1. At the bottom of the troubleshooting page is a link to test your connection (See Preinstall checklist).
2. Please test it to insure you are getting adequate throughput. Normally, you are going to get slower connectivity than the maximum rate of your internet connection.
a) For example, if you have 512 kbps DSL, you will likely only get 150-220 kbps actual throughput.
b) The type of file should not have any impact on transfer times.
3. InSite automatically compresses the files.
4. The following factors will have impact on the file transfer rate
a) Speed of Your Machine
b) Speed of network connection to your switch
c) Internet Broadband type and connection
d) Time of Day
e) Size of File
f) Color World’s Internet Connection is a 1.5 mbps (T-1) connection.
V. Browser Version
A. PC
1. MS Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
2. No Netscape support
B. Macintosh
1. Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. This will not be supported by Microsoft in the future.
2. Netscape 7.0 or higher
3. Safari. Preferred browser with MAC OS X
C. Cookies must be enabled on your browser
D. JavaScript must be enabled
1. Java Machine set up
a) Sun Java vs Microsoft VM
b) The Insite program supports the Sun Java Virtual Machine. It will phase out support for Microsoft VM
c) Safari on a Mac comes with the correct version of Java preinstalled.
2. Installation of Sun Java VM on a PC.
a) Close all other applications.
b) Turn off any active anti-virus software
c) Click Download the new version on the Troubleshooting page
d) Click the Open New Window Link
e) Windows Install
(1) A Sun URL window will open.
(2) Choose Windows installation
(3) Choose Open rather than save.
(4) The file downloads
(5) Accept the license agreement.
(6) Choose typical installation
(7) The files will be downloaded and installed
(8) Restart your browser
(9) Normally, this will be sufficient to install and start Java. However, you may have to go to Control Panel,Java Plugin, Browser and click Internet Explorer and Apply and reopen the browser.
VI.Testing Your Machine
A. Reboot cleanly with no applications open
B. Open your browser
C. Go to proof.colorworldprinters.com
D. Below the Login and Password window, click on the Troubleshooting Link
E. This will bring up a page that lists the compatibility of all components. Errors will be listed in red.
1. PC Windows XP machines may show “unsupported” or “unidentified”. They will work fine.
2. MAC OS 10 machines may show an error with Java on the test page but InSite will work fine.
VII. Prepare Installation
A. Mac OS Installation-Automatic
1. Use the Commercial CD for OS 9.2
a) Make sure you have the case with the serial number that CWP provided
b) Exit all applications
c) Load CD and mount volume
d) Open up Your Language - English
e) Open “Install Synapse Prepare” Folder
f) Select Prepare 1.1.1 double click
g) Automatically installs plug-ins for Quark and InDesign 2.x
h) Installing Directives
(1) Open up the “Vendors” folder in the Prepare application folder
(2) Remove its contents (Typical Printer, etc.)
(3) Place the provided “Color World Printers” folder in Vendors
(4) With Prepare open, select “ Windows Directives” from the drop down menu.
(5) Click on “Color World Printers” arrow, then the “Directives” arrow.
(a) Select “CWP_OS9_Process” for process color.
(b) Select “CWP_OS9_Spot” for spot color.
(c) When your selection is highlighted, click the “default” button on the bottom of the menu.
2. Use the CWP Burned CD for OS 10
a) Make sure you have the case with the serial number that CWP provided
b) Exit all applications
c) Load CD and mount volume
d) Double Click Icon “Synapse Prepare 2.0.IMG
e) A folder is mounted “Synapse Prepare 2.0”
f) Open the new folder
g) Double click the installer “Synapse Prepare 2.0”
h) Make choices for proper applications
(1) Using Quark 5 or 6 select Add-in
(2) Select the correct version of Distiller 5 or 6
(3) Choose InDesign Add-in only if using version 2.02. It might lock up even in that situation. Prepare currently does not support InDesign 3.0 or higher as a plug in. However, it will work fine as a print choice within InDesign.
i) Installing Directives
(1) Open up the “Vendors” folder in the Prepare application folder
(2) Remove its contents (Typical Printer, etc.)
(3) Place the provided “Color World Printers” folder in Vendors
(4) With Prepare open, select “ Windows Directives” from the drop down menu.
(5) Click on “Color World Printers” arrow, then the “Directives” arrow.
(a) Select “CWP_OSX_Process” for process color.
(b) Select “CWP_OSX_Spot” for Spot color.
(c) Select “CWP_OSX_Grayscale” for grayscale.
(d) Select “CWP_OSX_150dpi” for soft proofing at 150dpi.
(e) Select “CWP_OSX_72dpi” for soft proofing at 72dpi.
(f) When your selection is highlighted, click the “default” button on the bottom of the menu.
3. If it hangs before it asks for applications, then unplug your Ethernet connection and try again.
4. If it hangs after selecting applications, run again without selecting InDesign.
5. If it still will not install, choose the manual install listed below.

C. PC version of Prepare.
1. There is no version of Prepare. You can still use InSite to upload files and view on-line proofing. This will be set up by your sales person.
VIII. Customer Administration Set Up
A. Every customer will have its initial account set up by Color World. Additional users and permissions are managed by the customer.
